Darrell Clarke sets integration expectation for ‘wildcard’ Fabrizio Cavegn at Bristol Rovers.

Last week, Bristol Rovers signed 22-year-old striker Fabrizio Cavegn from Swiss second division club FC Vaduz.
Darrell Clarke has warned Bristol Rovers to proceed with caution when integrating new striker Fabrizio Cavegn into their squad, following the Gas’ announcement of the Swiss forward’s arrival on Friday evening. Cavegn, 22, has joined Rovers from FC Vaduz in Switzerland’s second tier, signing a three-year contract with an option to extend for an undisclosed fee.
The Pirates’ latest signing was introduced to the crowd at the Mem before Rovers’ 1-0 opening day defeat to Harrogate Town on Saturday, and fans will be eager to see their new frontman in action as the Gas’ goalscoring woes continued.
Cavegn has had a pre-season and played in a Europa Conference League qualifier alongside Vaduz’s league opener, but Clarke admits caution will be required when integrating him into the squad.
“We have to be careful, obviously for visas and insurance purposes,” the Rovers manager told Bristol Live. “So he will probably do some light work on Monday.
“As soon as we get clearance for that, he’ll be in full training, but he’s already had a full pre-season and was obviously involved in a few games.
So we’ll see how quickly we can get that done.” Adding to the frontline has been a priority for the Gas all summer, and the signing of Ellis Harrison and Cavegn last week will provide much-needed depth to Rovers’ attack.
Last season, only three League One teams scored fewer goals than the Pirates, who scored 44. It is unusual for Rovers, and League Two in general, to make international transfers.
However, the Gas are optimistic that they have discovered a bargain after extensive scouting. “We’ve got a really good recruitment team at the club and the thing is, we know how difficult centre forwards are and we know how much they cost,” Clarke told the BBC. “We were looking for a certain type of centre forward.
If I’m being honest, the market in England was a little too expensive for that type of player. We believe we have a lad we paid a fee for who has enormous potential.
“We’ve also had him watched live for a couple of games. [Jon] Steady and I had both worked hard on the lad. “It’s a bit of a wild card, but it certainly fits the criteria that we want in one of our centre forwards.”
Rovers now have five players capable of leading the front line, including Ruel Sotiriou, Promise Omochere, and Ollie Dewsbury, plus Harrison.
The belief is that all five forwards have different skill sets and will contribute something unique to the offensive output.
