Exclusive: Sky Sports pundit reveals “good news” for Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield Town got their new campaign underway with an impressive 3-0 win over Leyton Orient.

Lee Grant’s side is predicted to achieve great things in the 2025/26 season. They’ve spent a lot of money on their 12 new acquisitions so far, and many believe they’ll win League One in May.

They didn’t do much to alarm any of those punters with their opening day performance against Richie Wellens’ team, who were in the play-off final only a few months before. Joe Low and Alfie May scored for the Terriers, giving them a 2-0 lead, before Ruben Roosken secured the deal late on.

Grant experienced considerable nerves during his first match as a manager. Orient had chances to score, primarily through Aaron Connolly, but Town proved to be too much.

Huddersfield Town impress Sky pundit with 3-0 win over Leyton Orient

Don Goodman, a Sky Sports pundit, is one of many who believe in Huddersfield. He was impressed by their first competitive match back at the newly called Accu Stadium, and, unfortunately for the rest of the division, he sees space for growth.

“I think I’ve said it before, but I really like what Huddersfield Town has done in the transfer market so far, and they got most of their work done pretty early,” Goodman told Football League World.

“Obviously, Alfie May’s signing was a late one. However, eight new arrivals made their debut against Leyton Orient, who were bound to provide a tough test for Huddersfield given their sole loss in the play-off final. Just a few months ago, they defeated Huddersfield Town 4-1.

“So the turnaround was huge. The good news for Huddersfield is that there was certainly potential for development, and the current set of players will only get better. So far, everything are looking fantastic.

“I appreciate how Huddersfield Town looks on paper. And surely, their opening-day success hasn’t dampened my enthusiasm for them.

Huddersfield’s litany of amazing players will kill most of their opponents

Many third-tier opponents will struggle against Huddersfield due of their incredible depth. In the first half, Roosken came off the bench to replace the injured Sean Roughan. Joe Taylor set up his goal, for which the Terriers paid £x million in the previous winter transfer window.

Grant also introduced Dion Charles, David Kasumu, and Lasse Sorensen late in the match. The combination of those players with fresh legs up against what should typically be lesser opponents with tired legs spells calamity for those who must face the Terriers over the next ten months.
