Manager Lee Grant thanks Huddersfield Town faithful for ‘great gesture’

Huddersfield Town manager Lee Grant is painfully aware that it is his team’s obligation to get the Terriers’ fans excited this season, having praised the atmosphere in Saturday’s 3-0 win against Leyton Orient.

Grant thanked Town’s fans following their opening-day victory over the O’s, which propelled the Terriers to the top of League One after the first round of fixtures.

Joe Low, Alfie May, and Ruben Roosken scored for Town, who rebounded from their 4-1 defeat to Orient in May, which ended last season.
Town came into this season off the heels of a poor second half of previous season, when the Terriers lost 15 of their final 21 games.
Despite this, Grant was thrilled with the support his new-look team had at the Accu Stadium. He told BBC Radio Leeds, “The boys felt it.” I could hear players on the bench behind me describe the emotion, atmosphere, and noise in the stadium, which was pleasant for me because it was familiar.

“I’ve been here five minutes, so I’m used to what we’ve got, but for those guys, it really outlined the fact that perhaps it was different prior.” We want that every week, but it’s up to us. The supporters gave us that for free today, and I appreciate it. They didn’t owe us anything, and they certainly didn’t owe me that, so it’s a wonderful gesture from the supporters.

“It is now our responsibility to earn it and assist them in providing it to us on a weekly basis. It’s our responsibility as athletes and staff.”
