Middlesbrough confirm their squad numbers for the 2025-26 season.
Middlesbrough have confirmed their squad numbers ahead of the new season, with three new recruits given squad numbers and one significant change.
As previously revealed by the club, Tommy Conway will wear the iconic number nine shirt in the upcoming season, as Rob Edwards places his trust in the recently-turned 23-year-old to spearhead the Boro attack. He takes up the squad number from Emmanuel Latte Lath and subsequently Kelechi Iheanacho, who wore it previous season.
Boro has three new additions this season and plans to make more. In terms of squad numbers, 1-11 are all assigned, with Callum Brittain taking over the number 2 shirt previously held by Anfernee Dijksteel. The new Blackburn signing will be the first-choice right wing-back in the coming season.

As for other new arrivals, Alfie Jones will wear number 5 after joining from Hull City, which could indicate the emphasis Edwards will have on him coming season. Matt Clarke was the last Boro player to wear that number before leaving in January to join Derby County.
Abdoulaye Kante, who arrived this summer from Troyes, will wear number 42. While he has only recently turned 20, he is very much a part of the first-team plans, and his squad number reflects his present status as a club project signing.
Even though the first 11 numbers have been issued, Boro still has a lot of work to do before the transfer window closes. The immediate priority are a left wing-back and a backup striker, although a new forward may also be considered, and another attacker is not ruled out.
A lot will depend on the budget, which may be influenced by a prospective large sale. Rav van den Berg (number 3) and Hayden Hackney (number 7) continue to attract interest in their services, but both stay at the club for the time being, with Hackney turning down a transfer to Ipswich Town last week.
Interestingly, despite an apparent movement in the pecking order, the number of Boro’s three goalkeepers stays same. Seny Dieng keeps the number one shirt, but Sol Brynn, who is largely projected to be first choice this season, remains at 31.
