Plymouth boss Tom Cleverley is prepared for a “big challenge” against Wanderers but believes his side can show their quality.
Cleverley took over at Home Park over the summer, after Miron Muslic left to join Schalke.
The Devon club is also looking to rebound following a 3-1 loss to Barnsley on the first day of play.
Cleverley watched Bolton at Edgeley Park and was impressed with Steven Scuhmacher’s team for the first 45 minutes.
“I thought the first half was quite outstanding; they had some excellent players on their team. It will be a difficult test for us, we know,” he told Plymouth Live.
“Both sides will definitely have to work harder to obtain that first win after losing on the first day.
“It’ll be a huge challenge. They have invested a lot of money on an already great squad, but we have plenty of talent for them to worry about as well. I believe it will be a great football game between two good teams.”
Cleverley is well aware of Schumacher’s record at Home Park, having led Plymouth to the title a few years ago. The former Watford manager is also close to assistant head coach Richie Kyle.
“I think when you come into a football club you have to respect what has gone before you, and especially those who have been successful before you,” according to him.
“So I’ve done a lot of thinking about that campaign, how they managed to achieve 60 points [at home] while also being competitive on the road, and what worked and what didn’t.
“That was a terrific season, with 101 points, moving up with Ipswich and beating Sheffield Wednesday to the automatic promotion spot.
“From what I’ve observed, [Schumacher] is a top man. I’m quite close to Richie Kyle, his assistant, and there are many links among the crew on Saturday. Let’s hope we win.”
