Middlesbrough transfer stance on Hull City man clarified by report
Boro – Middlesbrough won 1-0 at home to Swansea City in their first Championship game of the new 2025/26 season.
Middlesbrough are not in the market for a new goalkeeper despite recent transfer speculation linking them with Hull City stopper Ivor Pandur, according to The Northern Echo.
Reports from journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon page had suggested that Boro were eyeing a summer swoop for the Tigers’ number one. Pandur, 24, has impressed at the MKM Stadium since joining from Fortuna Sittard last year, establishing himself as one of the Championship’s more consistent shot-stoppers. His form last term played a key role in helping Hull push for the play-offs, and it is no surprise that his name has been mentioned in connection with other clubs.
However, The Northern Echo has now moved to cool the speculation, stating that Michael Carrick’s side are not currently pursuing a goalkeeper. That stance reflects Boro’s satisfaction with their current options between the sticks, with Seny Dieng firmly established as first choice and experienced backup available in the squad.
Boro began their new Championship campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Swansea City at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday. Centre-back Dael Fry netted the decisive goal, heading home from a set-piece in the second half to secure three points and a perfect start to the 2025/26 season. The clean sheet was also an encouraging sign for Carrick, with his defensive unit looking solid and well-organised.
While the transfer window remains open until the end of August, the Teessiders appear focused on strengthening other areas of the pitch rather than altering their goalkeeping department. Carrick and the recruitment team have prioritised adding depth in attack and midfield, with the club still exploring deals to bolster creativity and firepower.
For Hull City, the news will be welcome as they aim to keep hold of Pandur. Liam Rosenior’s side opened their own campaign with a goalless draw away at Coventry City, a match in which the Slovenian international played his part by making several smart stops. Hull have no intention of selling one of their key players unless a significant offer arrives, and with Middlesbrough apparently out of the running, the chances of Pandur staying put have increased.
Pandur himself has shown no public desire to leave the MKM Stadium, and with Hull looking to build on last season’s progress, retaining their top talents will be crucial. His ability to command his box, distribute accurately from the back, and produce big saves in tight games has made him a fan favourite in East Yorkshire.
In the ever-changing Championship transfer landscape, rumours can escalate quickly, but on this occasion, it appears that Middlesbrough’s goalkeeping situation will remain unchanged. Unless there is a sudden twist in the coming weeks, Boro supporters can expect Dieng to continue as the man in possession of the gloves, while Pandur will stay a key figure for the Tigers.
For now, both clubs turn their attention to their next fixtures, with Middlesbrough facing a trip to Bristol City and Hull preparing for a home clash against Sheffield Wednesday.
