Man City ‘enter race’ for Chelsea transfer target after sanctioning Jack Grealish exit

After approving Jack Grealish’s departure, Man City “enters the race” for Chelsea’s transfer target.

TBR Football first reported last week that Savinho is a surprise transfer target for Tottenham. Since they are hesitant to let Savinho go after just one season, City will demand at least £50 million for him, but never

obstruct a player who wishes to depart. After City informed the England international that he could find a new club, Jack Grealish is getting closer to signing a loan deal with Everton for the 2025–2026 campaign. Additionally, TBR Football is aware that James McAtee is getting closer to joining Nottingham Forest. In order to help City provide for striker Erling Haaland, their departures might make room for a late summer signing for another offensive midfielder. Since a spot has opened up behind Haaland, City may also be interested in Netherlands international Xavi Simons, who has been linked to a large transfer for Real Madrid winger Rodrygo.
According to TBR Football, Chelsea had hoped to pay £50 million to recruit Simons from RB Leipzig. However, there are now rumours that City may be vying for his services. City has contacted Simons’ agent in an attempt to sabotage the Chelsea deal and find a replacement for their outgoing attackers, according to Sacha Tavolieri on Twitter.

Prior to his permanent move to Leipzig last summer, the 22-year-old winger was linked to City for a considerable amount of time while playing for PSV Eindhoven and Paris Saint-Germain. Savinho was a key player for City after his £33 million transfer from Girona, whereas Jack Grealish and James McAtee were on the outside of the team the previous season. Even though he only managed to score three goals—one of which came in the Premier League—he contributed thirteen assists and had a great deal of promise, which City would have hoped he would fulfil in the upcoming season.

If Simons signs, his versatility might be a helpful weapon as City needs more alternatives in the attacking midfield areas after club legend Kevin De Bruyne recently left the Etihad. Simons has played a variety of midfield positions in his 76 games for RB Leipzig, primarily off the left wing but sometimes on the right and in a number ten position. Although Savinho’s departure would be a shock, Simons might be a ready-made substitute with a stronger track record and a more adaptable style.
