‘Absolute disaster’ – EFL pundit has say on Sheffield United after opening day horror show

Sheffield United’s result against Bristol City on the opening day was an ‘absolute disaster’, says EFL pundit George Elek.

Sheffield United were beaten 4-1 at home by the Robins last time out. Tyrese Campbell got on the scoresheet for SUFC.

The Blades are back in action on Wednesday night with an away trip to Birmingham City in the Carabao Cup. They then face Swansea City in South Wales this weekend.

Elek has said on the Not The Top 20 Podcast on YouTube: “This is an absolute disaster to lose 4-1 at home in the first game of the season. To be carved open the way that they were, to look so poor at the back. Yes, in terms of personnel it’s not a massive surprise. Rhys Norrington-Davies having to start centre back is not ideal, Tyler Bindon having to make the step up and clearly having a difficult debut.

“I almost think the worst first game they couldn’t have possibly had was at home to Bristol City because we saw Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United, with the help of a red card, beat Bristol City by a record goal tally on aggregate in a play-off over two legs. The expectation and precedent was already set.”

Sheffield United latest regarding Ruben Selles

Sheffield United turned to Selles in June in a surprise move. SUFC appointed the Spaniard following his sacking by fellow Championship side Hull City.
