Club set for cash windfall from star’s Middlesbrough exit

Dutch side PEC Zwolle are set for a cash windfall from Middlesbrough star Rav van den Berg moving to German outfit 1.FC Koln.

Van den Berg has been extensively linked with a move away from Middlesbrough this summer.

Crystal Palace were interested in the Dutchman, but it appeared that he would join Feyenoord in the Netherlands.
Feyenoord initially reached a verbal agreement with the Championship club and the player over a move to De Kuip.

However, the move fell through, and it became evident that Van den Berg would not be joining Feyenoord this summer.

However, the Dutchman is on his way to Koln, Germany, to join the club.

Middlesbrough expects to earn €10 million from the sale of the defender, which will also result in a significant cash windfall for his former club Zwolle.

Zwolle sold Van den Berg to Middlesbrough for a low sum of €300,000, but included a 20% sell-on clause for potential future transfer fee profits.

If Boro sells Van den Berg for €10 million and makes a profit of €9.7 million, they will receive €1.94 million, which is 20% of the total.

Solidarity payments for developing the defender would be added to that number, bringing the total received to more than €2 million.

Van den Berg is anticipated to be in Germany for his physical and final talks with the club to finalize his move to Koln.

Boro manager Rob Edwards did not include Van den Berg in his matchday squad for Saturday’s win against Swansea City, but if everything goes well, he will play for Koln this season.
