The key Yegor Sorokin, the star of Kairat Almaty, is anxious to obtain a visa for the Champions League match against Celtic next week.
Celtic travels 3,536 miles to Asia for the second leg after playing the first leg in Glasgow against the Kazakhstan team for a spot in the league stages.
However, Kairat has an issue with Sorokin, their Russian international defender, who will require a visa in order to enter the UK the following week. The UK government imposed sanctions on Ukraine and its citizens after Russia invaded the country in February 2022. The Home Office took months to grant visas for Russian and Belarusian tennis players to attend Wimbledon, and they were required to sign a “declaration of neutrality.”
