Rav van den Berg’s goodbye message to Middlesbrough as his two years come to an end

Rav Van den Berg has joined Koln.

Rav van den Berg used to Instagram to say goodbye to Middlesbrough as he completed his move to FC Koln.

The departure marked an end to his two-year tenure on Teesside, which had begun with a £260k move from PEC Zwolle in summer 2023. Boro has earned a significant profit on the Netherlands under-21 international after turning down three offers this summer before accepting Koln’s newest.

The two clubs agreed to a €13 million deal, with Boro including a future sell-on fee clause. Van den Berg’s two mixed years at Boro will come to an end with his move to the German Bundesliga. He was a star in his debut season, winning Player of the Year, before injuries hampered his performance last season.

Despite this, Van den Berg is still considered as one of the game’s most promising young defenders, with big clubs around Europe keeping an eye on him. However, much like when he first arrived to Boro, his focus at this point was still game time, and he was only considering offers where he believed that would be the case.

Following his departure to Koln, Van den Berg took to Instagram to broadcast a video of highlights from his time at the Riverside, writing: “Two seasons at Middlesbrough, what a ride. I felt right at home from day one. Thank you to the club, teammates, staff, and fans for their support. It’s time for the next chapter, and I’ll be watching the club intently. Wishing you the best.”

Several current and past teammates, including Tommy Conway, Josh Coburn, and Sonny Finch, responded to the Dutchman. Conway wrote, “All the best, bro [love heart emoji].”
