Development: Sheffield Wednesday receive “multi-million pound” bids for star, some left baffled

Sheffield Wednesday turned down “multi-million pound” proposals from two major clubs this summer, according to reputable journalist Miguel Delaney.

Pedersen is “very proud” following Sheffield Wednesday’s triumph.

An relatively youthful and depleted Owls side defeated Bolton Wanderers on penalties in midweek, advancing to the EFL Cup second round. Following the victory, new manager Henrik Pedersen was full of praise for his Wednesday players and expressed his delight in the outcome.

“I am extremely, very proud. We had a lot of academy boys and debutants on the team. We spoke before the game and agreed that, while we have a young team, we also have some good older players. But I’m quite proud of how they performed.

“I think there were many positives to this performance; we were much more aggressive in our pressing, we won more balls high up the pitch, and we had enough energy to make some transitions, especially in the first half.

“We kept coming back from the draw and didn’t get stuck in the situation; it was all about the next move, and the boys demonstrated that each time Bolton scored, we climbed up swiftly and scored a fresh goal, more or less.

“They stayed together, kept going, and it was inspiring to see the young guys achieve this. Another feature that struck me was how delighted the veteran guys were. “You could tell they were all together.”

Wednesday are currently in a very frightening situation, with the club’s future jeopardised due to financial difficulties, yet a bid for a player has been denied.

Sheffield Wednesday reject offers for the “excellent” hero.

According to Delaney on X, Sheffield Wednesday have turned down “multi-million pound” proposals from Rangers and West Ham for goalkeeper Pierce Charles, prompting “bafflement” from some.

“Sheffield Wednesday reject multi-million pound bids from West Ham and Rangers for Pierce Charles, leading to bafflement from some within the club given their financial situation.”

Charles is a key player for Wednesday, so it makes sense that they want to keep him, but some will undoubtedly consider the wider picture and ask if he should be moved on.

The 20-year-old is one of the Owls’ most coveted assets right now, having been dubbed “excellent” by Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill, which means they may sell him for millions, as Rangers and West Ham have done.

Unless Wednesday’s management is certain that the club’s financial problems will suddenly improve, they should consider accepting the next bid for Charles.

It would be a shame to lose such a great young player with a promising future in the game, but if his sale saves the club, that definitely takes precedence.
