Sunderland have made an offer for a “unreal” centre-back, according to a big update from journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Sunderland’s summer spree set to continue
The Black Cats have had a fantastic summer, building on their Championship promotion from last season with 11 permanent acquisitions to date.
Granit Xhaka is undoubtedly the most visible acquisition, having joined from Bayer Leverkusen and instantly being named Sunderland captain, helping his team defeat West Ham 3-0 in their Premier League opener on Saturday afternoon.

Habib Diarra and Simon Adingra, the Black Cats’ two most costly summer signings, joined from Strasbourg and Brighton, respectively, to improve Regis Le Bris’ midfield and wide options.
The early signs for Sunderland are promising, with their new acquisitions guaranteeing that they avoid relegation to the Championship, but their work is far from over.

Sunderland submit bid for “unreal” centre-back
Now, Romano has turned to X to report that Sunderland has made an offer for Bologna centre-back Jhon Lucumi as their summer spending spree continues. He is eager to complete his move to the club.
Lucumi, a 27-year-old seasoned head who has risen to prominence in recent seasons, could be just what the Black Cats are looking for, bringing high-level quality and physical power to Le Bris’ back-line.
He is a 29-cap Colombia international, which is no small feat, and after 94 games in Serie A, he may like the prospect of proving himself in the Premier League.
Lucumi was previously tipped to be a “great” centre-back by scout Jacek Kulig, and journalist Ethan Todd labeled him as “unreal” earlier this summer.
If the transfer goes through, the Colombian will be Sunderland’s 12th permanent addition of the summer, as the club’s squad continues to grow in their efforts to stay a Premier League team beyond this season.
