Sunderland linked with £67m quadruple transfer deal under Speakman and Florent Ghisolfi

The most recent Sunderland-related transfer news and rumors from across the web ahead of the Brentford game this weekend.

Sunderland’s summer of high-profile transfer activity shows no signs of slowing, with the Black Cats connected with additional signings following their 3-0 victory over West Ham United on the first day of the Premier League season.

These new ties come after Sunderland made an impressive return to the top division at the Stadium of Light on Saturday. Goals from Eliezer Mayenda, Dan Ballard, and Wilson Isidor concluded a spectacular afternoon in which Le Bris gave eight debutants first-team opportunities.

With just under two weeks until the transfer window closes, Sunderland’s transfer activity appears to be far from over, as Kristjaan Speakman and Florent Ghisolfi continue to create a Premier League-caliber squad.

Sunderland linked with Ajax striker Brian Brobbey.

Sunderland have been linked with Ajax striker Brian Brobbey, but they have competition from across Europe, with Stade Rennes making a firm bid for the 23-year-old. According to reports in the Netherlands, Rennes is willing to pay more than £17 million to get Brobbey, but they are still short of Ajax’s estimate. Negotiations are understood to be ongoing, with Ajax open to additional discussions.

Brobbey, who scored just four goals in the Eredivisie last season, has been given permission to leave Amsterdam and is expected to seek a new challenge. Sunderland, AS Roma, and Stuttgart are all interested in the powerful forward, increasing the prospect of a multi-club competition for his signature.

Rennes’ pursuit comes after they sold Arnaud Kalimuendo – who scored 17 Ligue 1 goals last season – to Nottingham Forest for around £25.2 million. The French team, which ended 12th last season, defeated Marseille 1-0 on Friday night, but they are still looking for a centre-forward to spearhead their attack.

In the meantime, Ajax is under pressure to sell players in order to pay reinforcements. They are prioritising the signing of an experienced midfielder and a left-footed defender, and any funds raised by Brobbey’s exit might be used to hasten those plans.

Sunderland linked with Leicester midfielder Harry Winks.

According to recent reports, Sunderland has joined Brentford in the race to capture Leicester City midfielder Harry Winks. The 29-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at the King Power Stadium, while Valencia and Fiorentina have expressed interest.

Winks has been a mainstay for the Foxes since joining from Tottenham in 2023, making 76 appearances across all competitions and appearing in both Championship games this season. However, with Leicester facing the prospect of losing him for free next summer, there is mounting speculation that they will be obliged to sell him before the deadline.

The England international, who has ten caps, has also played in Serie A during a loan spell with Sampdoria in 2022–23.

Official bid for Bologna’s Jhon Lucumí.

Sunderland has made an official proposal for Colombian centre-back Jhon Lucumí, valued at £20 million. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Black Cats have made a move for the Bologna defender, who is eager to join Régis Le Bris’ Premier League project.

Bologna, on the other hand, is hesitant to let the 27-year-old go after his release clause expired, stating unequivocally that they want to keep him. Even said, Sunderland’s interest demonstrates their desire to bolster a defensive unit that has already added Omar Alderete from Getafe and Nordi Mukiele from Paris Saint-Germain.

Sunderland are looking to sign Abdul Fatawu for £30 million.

Sunderland’s attack has been widely connected with Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu. According to multiple sources, the Black Cats have made a bid of just under £30 million for the Ghana international, who played a major role in Leicester’s Championship title-winning campaign while on loan from Sporting Lisbon.

Fatawu, now a permanent Leicester player, has four years left on his contract but has emerged as one of Sunderland’s late-window objectives. The 21-year-old, who can play on either flank, has started both of Leicester’s league games this season but might be lured by the Black Cats’ ambitious Premier League plans.
