Southampton striker Dom Ballard could be on the move this summer, with Barnsley, Plymouth Argyle and Leyton Orient all emerging as contenders for his signature. Championship outfit Reading are also keeping close tabs on the situation, according to a report from the Daily Echo.

Ballard, 20, has been a rising star in Southampton’s youth ranks over the past few years, but with the Saints focused on their push to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking, manager Will Still is weighing up his options carefully. The young forward faces stiff competition for a starting berth, and with senior attacking options already established at St Mary’s, a loan or permanent switch is seen as the best pathway for him to continue his development.

Southampton’s stance

Southampton are determined to maintain momentum after narrowly missing out on automatic promotion last term. The appointment of Still, who has built a reputation for maximising young talent at Reims and elsewhere, reflects a clear vision for the club. However, with the pressure to secure promotion, the focus is firmly on proven, experienced strikers to lead the line.
