Lucumi and Bologna expect new and improved Sunderland bid

Sunderland are expected to make a new and improved bid for Bologna defender Jhon Lucumi for €28 million.

The Premier League club has long been interested in signing the centre-back, and he is said to be open to accepting their offer.

However, his contract’s release clause of €28 million expired on July 10, and Bologna is hesitant to deal with him after selling Sam Beukema to Napoli.

Sunderland will not let go of Lucumi

According to Tuttomercatoweb, a new offer worth €28 million is available, up from €25 million previously rejected.

It may still be insufficient, given that this would correspond to the previously expired release clause.

What may give them pause is that Lucumi’s contract only expires in June 2027, making it difficult to persuade him to accept a new term in these circumstances.

They had been allowed to extend from 2026 due to their unilateral provision, thus there was no need to negotiate with the athlete or his entourage.
