Rob Edwards’ pledge over substitutions at Middlesbrough

Rob Edwards’ promise regarding Middlesbrough’s substitutes

Last weekend’s 3-0 victory against Millwall was largely attributed to Edwards’ audacious touchline decisions. The Boro manager substituted Sontje Hansen for Abdoulaye Kante at halftime and watched as the Dutch player set up Hayden Hackney’s first goal.

With about 20 minutes left, Edwards made two additional substitutions: Finn Azaz took Morgan Whittaker’s place, and Delano Burgzorg replaced Tommy Conway. Both changes were successful, as Burgzorg completed the scoring at the Den. “If it’s going to give us new energy and a different kind of quality, I’m happy to change it a bit earlier,” the Boro manager added. His team plays Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday. “We have to use that when we have it with us, even though TC and Morgan will have been a little irritated to go a little earlier.

Finn had a pleasant moment with one appearance and one assist. I was happy that he and Della scored the third goal together. When they came on, both of them were excellent and made a difference. We want the squad to do that. “Morgan and TC are two separate players; Finn and Della are two different players. But during those times, they were exactly what we needed.

Ahead of the weekend trip to Norfolk, Edwards is facing a selection dilemma due to their performances. The Boro manager must also determine whether to give Hansen a maiden start. Despite having only moved from Dutch team NEC Nijmegen last week, the 23-year-old showed no hesitation as he made an immediate impact against Millwall. Edwards declared, “He’s [Hansen] a good player.” “He’s a thrilling football player, and it’s good that he’s had a significant influence.”
