Colorado Rapids reportedly in talks to sign USMNT’s Paxten Aaronson in blockbuster transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt

Paxten Aaronson of the USMNT is allegedly in negotiations to join the Colorado Rapids in a blockbuster move from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Djordje Mihailovic, a top No. 10 in the U.S. men’s national team pool, left the Colorado Rapids to join Toronto FC. They may be getting a replacement with an even more well-known name.

According to reports, Chris Armas’ team is in advanced negotiations with Paxten Aaronson, a young American who is presently playing for Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga. Paxten Aaronson, the brother of Leeds United player Brenden, had an eight-goal, four-assist season while on loan at Utretch, making him a finalist for the Eredivisie’s Young Player of the Year award. The 21-year-old recently scored a goal in the German Cup during an 11-minute cameo in Frankfurt’s 5-0 victory over FV Engers, a team in the lower league.

If the Rapids are successful in making this acquisition, Aaronson is one of the top young players in the USMNT pool. According to journalist Tom Bogert, Colorado would be breaking a club record if they finalise the signing, despite not being known as one of MLS’s big spenders. In a cash-for-player transaction with Toronto, the Rapids earned a club record fee of $8 million for Mihailovic, with a further $1 million in possible add-ons. Before travelling to Europe, the Aaronson brothers both began their careers in Major League Soccer, rising through the levels with the Philadelphia Union.

The transfer might provide Aaronson an opportunity to play regularly during a World Cup year. He has only participated in 14 league games for Frankfurt since joining the German team in 2023 before being loaned to Vitesse and Utrecht. With a seventh-place finish in the Western Conference, the Rapids are still in the running for the playoffs. At 36, they are five points behind fourth place, which is the final home playoff seed in the first round.
