Southampton have made an approach to sign Middlesbrough attacking midfielder Finn Azaz. According to Daily Mail Sport, a bid of up to £12 million is being explored for the Republic of Ireland international.
Initial negotiations have begun, with West Ham making an upgraded offer for Saints midfielder Mateus Fernandes, while Tyler Dibling continues to attract interest from Premier League clubs.
Azaz had a great season in the Championship last season, scoring 12 goals in 45 appearances, and Southampton sees him as someone who can assist them return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Boro place a high value on Azaz, therefore the Saints may need to increase their bid to sign the 24-year-old. Boro are also expecting a new approach from Ipswich regarding Hayden Hackney.

Southampton may lose midfielders Mateus Fernandes and Tyler Dibling to Premier League clubs before the window ends.
The midfielder turned down a £20 million transfer to Portman Road last month, but Ipswich have not given up.

Kieran McKenna is determined to improve his midfield engine room and, as first reported by Daily Mail Sport, approached Newcastle United to sign highly rated Lewis Miley on loan, only for Eddie Howe to insist on keeping the kid for the time being.
However, if Azaz leaves, it is unlikely that Hackney will follow, as Boro is hesitant to sell both.
