‘Upset the narrative’: EFL pundits share ‘painful’ Wrexham vs Sheffield Wednesday score prediction

Wrexham and Sheffield Wednesday are both still searching for their first Championship wins of the season.

Phil Parkinson’s future has been called into question following a dismal start that included two defeats in two league meetings.

The Wrexham Insider revealed last week that Wrexham are not in a hurry to sign Parkinson, but the club as a whole is ‘frustrated’ with way the season has begun. The Red Dragons have had a rough start to 2025/26, facing two clubs who, on theory, should be in or around the top six by May. However, their forthcoming opponents are probably more weaker, and this should be Wrexham’s greatest chance so far to take up points for the first time this season.

EFL pundits share Wrexham vs Sheffield Wednesday score prediction

Sheffield Wednesday have a thin roster and, like Wrexham, have lost their first two league games this season. Two EFL commentators think that one team’s winless streak will come to an end this weekend. Benjamin Bloom, speaking on his YouTube channel, predicted that Wrexham would win 2-1.

He stated, “I believe this will be a bitter experience for them [Sheffield Wednesday]. I believe they will lose by one goal, possibly late. Wrexham will bring someone off the bench and then bundle home the winner, or something similar. “Wrexham 2 Sheffield Wednesday 1.” Sam Parkin, speaking alongside Bloom, predicted a 1-0 home win. He stated, “It’s a problem this week; I find it difficult to call. Sheffield Wednesday are going to get some points, and they are going to change the narrative sooner than later. It will not be this week, I am afraid, but they will.

“I just think it’ll be too difficult, even though the Racecourse is currently three-sided. “So maybe not the atmosphere that it was last season but I still think they’ll be too good for Sheffield Wednesday, I’ll go for a solitary victory 1-0.”

Wrexham and Sheffield Wednesday injury problems

Josh Windass will miss Wrexham’s game against Sheffield Wednesday and is expected to be out for at least a month.

Along with Windass, Jay Rodriguez and Andy Cannon are long-term absentees who will be out on Saturday. Parkinson stated, “Obviously Jay [Rodriguez] and Andy [Cannon] are longer term. “We’ve had some inconvenience, but other clubs have experienced similar issues. “It’s just important that we don’t get too upset about it and deal with it because we have fantastic players ready to step in. However, the Owls are dealing with their own injury difficulties ahead of the game and are looking to make an emergency signing to replace Pierce Charles in goal.
