Ben Godfrey moved from Everton to Atalanta in June 2024, and there were early indications that he was failing to fit in. Gian Piero Gasperini, the current manager of AS Roma, was previously in charge of Atalanta and is well-known for having a demanding tactical setup that not all players can work in. For some, Godfrey’s story ended before it even began.
Throughout the summer, reports circulated that the Serie A team was eager to move Godfrey to an English club in exchange for Premier League money. Sheffield United, on the other hand, look to have capitalised on a lack of interest in a permanent agreement. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the 27-year-old central defender is expected to join Sheffield United on loan for the remainder of the season. Godfrey has been photographed in Milan’s Linate airport, and he is currently flying into England. Sheffield United will likely go through the procedures within the next several days.
