How one Dejphon Chansiri decision has given Sheffield Wednesday a glimmer of hope for survival
Following Sheffield Wednesday’s draw with Wrexham, it is clear that the Owls have a slim opportunity at survival this season, thanks to one star player.
Sheffield Wednesday held Wrexham to a 2-2 draw at the Racecourse Ground, with the Owls coming down from a two-goal deficit in North Wales.
The Owls fell behind courtesy of former Blades man Kieffer Moore, who bagged two before half-time to give Wrexham a comfortable lead.
However, a resurgence from Sheffield Wednesday in the second stanza, and a pair of goals from Barry Bannan and Bailey Cadamarteri, deservedly got the Owls level.
After the crushing defeat last weekend at home to an in-form Stoke City side, Henrik Pedersen’s side did brilliantly to respond against a Wrexham side that has been significantly invested in this summer.
It was a brilliant team performance, but one man in the centre of the park was a shining light for the Owls, someone who can give supporters an inkling of hope this season.

Sheffield Wednesday maintain survival hopes after Barry Bannan’s performance vs Wrexham
This summer saw Barry Bannan sign a contract at Sheffield Wednesday, a decision that gave Owls fans hope during a time when the club was being dragged through the mire.
It may, categorically, be labelled as the only positive decision made by Dejphon Chansiri this summer, in the midst of mass departures from the first-team and a lack of communication, all the while players and staff were handed late wages on a number of occasions.
In the draw against Wrexham, Bannan, at the age of 35, was still able to run the show, covering every blade of grass.
The Scotsman’s goal was the icing on the cake of what was a phenomenal outing for the Glaswegian, and will stand out long in the memory for Sheffield Wednesday supporters.
Barry Bannan stats vs Wrexham
To suggest that Barry Bannan ran the show against Wrexham would be an incredible understatement.
Via SofaScore, the Scotsman managed a total of 98 touches on the ball, making 51 accurate passes, six of which were deemed to be ‘key passes’.
He also won 70% of duels and bagged a goal, all of which took place against a midfield-three utilised by Phil Parkinson, as the Wrexham boss hoped that his side could outnumber Bannan in the centre of the park.
Such a turnaround at the Racecourse Ground would not have been possible without Bannan in midfield, and any potential of staying up this season is courtesy of the hope that he has resurrected in the club.
