‘Step up’: Sheffield Wednesday gem told he is now the ‘main man’ after Wrexham, he was deemed not good enough by Rohl

One Sheffield Wednesday player has established his worth at Championship level, with his display against Wrexham dispelling any doubts about his ability.

Sheffield Wednesday drew 2-2 against Wrexham, earning their first points of the 2025/26 Championship season.

Henrik Pedersen’s team appeared to be out of the tie at halftime after a Kieffer Moore brace put the Red Dragons ahead by two goals, but a spirited Sheffield Wednesday display in the second half helped the Owls equalize the score.

Barry Bannan spearheaded Sheffield Wednesday’s comeback, proving once again that he is still a top performer in the Championship, while Bailey Cadamarteri scored the Owls’ other goal.

Despite a difficult loan spell at Lincoln City last season, he returned with great expectations and has already met them.

Bailey Cadamarteri stepped up for Sheffield Wednesday

During Danny Rohl’s first season in S6, the Sheffield Wednesday coach relied on teenager Bailey Cadamarteri to lead the line on occasion, and it paid off wonderfully.

The forward acquired valuable experience in the Championship before being unexpectedly loaned out to League One side Lincoln City in the 2024/25 season, when he suffered injuries.

After believing he wasn’t quite ready for the Championship, Rohl had a point to prove this season after being given the opportunity to lead the line for Sheffield Wednesday, and he took it with both hands.

Dom Howson, via X, complimented the youthful forward, writing: “What a gutsy, spirited second-half fightback by Sheffield Wednesday to earn their first Championship point of the season.”

This season, they needed Bailey Cadamarteri to step up and play the lead role. Thus far, so good. That objective should benefit him greatly.”

Henrik Pedersen wants Ike Ugbo to improve alongside Bailey Cadamarteri

Bailey Cadamarteri demonstrated his ability to produce at this level by making a difference against Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground, and Ike Ugbo will now be expected to replicate it.

Ugbo has yet to score a league goal during his permanent tenure at Sheffield Wednesday, but he did score his first in all competitions in an EFL Cup triumph over Bolton Wanderers.

The Canadian has been out of form and luck, having missed a series of scoring opportunities against Wrexham.

His opportunity in a Sheffield Wednesday shirt will come, and Henrik Pedersen will be hoping he can put together a run of form.
