WHEN asked if a fairer time to judge his Sheffield United side would be after the closure of the summer transfer window, Ruben Selles’ answer was to the point.
To be fair, the Blades’ chief had a point. When you come over a team that came so close to promotion in May, the focus is not on jam tomorrow, but on today.
Selles stated, “That is an illusion; you are judged for everything you do every day.” I am judged based on what happens on the pitch and the results I achieve. My team’s performance. ” I don’t think it’s realistic to expect to be judged in three or four weeks after the transfer window closes.
“We are where we are right now, and hopefully on Monday, we can keep working hard so that next week, we can show something a little different – with or without a transfer window – to win football matches.
“Any other situation would be an excuse in my mind.”
The 42-year-old’s face was etched with pain in his post-match press conference following United’s fourth consecutive loss at the start of his term. He acknowledges he does not have a magic wand on hand.
But Selles’ drive is obvious, as his club travels to Middlesbrough next Saturday to face a team that has started the league season with a different type of 100 percent record.

He continued, “The pressure is coming from myself. I have a clear plan for what I want to accomplish and how I want to execute it.
“Nobody will be more disappointed than I already am. If anyone can change the situation, it’s me; I can and have done so in the past. I’ve been in situations like this before. ” The formula is to be cool with yourself and keep working, recognizing flaws and repairing them, finding even more cohesiveness and moving forward. Because you never know what action will affect your destiny.
