The solution to Steven Schumacher’s Bolton Wanderers’ problems is already in the team

Steven Schumacher has coached impressive performances this season, but Bolton Wanderers have failed to see the results they deserve.

Bolton Wanderers have already drawn three games in League One this season; if Steven Schumacher makes one small change, he could get the points the performances deserve.

Bolton Wanderers drew their third League One game of the season on Saturday against Lincoln City, despite being the better team for nearly the whole 90 minutes. This has happened to BWFC several times this season.

Steven Schumacher has coached the Trotters to dominant performances this season, but for whatever reason, they have failed to cross the finish line during their spells of domination.

Many assumed that Bolton Wanderers’ troubles were due to a lack of a certified centre forward, as Sam Dalby was out injured and Mason Burstow had just recently joined the club, although strikers are rarely given opportunities to effect the game. Whether Burstow or Dalby are up front, the Trotters are unable to incorporate the centre forward in action because they struggle to break down the opposition in a low block. However, with a simple tweak to the framework, BWFC might experience significant benefits.

Joel Randall, who joined Bolton Wanderers from Peterborough United in January of this year, is the current first-choice attacking midfielder, preferring to play on the left flank, most likely due to Schumacher’s orders. As a result, Ibrahim Cissoko or Thierry Gale will lead the Trotters’ attack on the left wing, with Max Conway joining from left back and Joel Randall. Conway, who spent last season on loan at Crewe Alexandra, has shown that he can be a threat in the attacking third, although he like to occupy the same positions as Randall.

Amario Cozier-Duberry, who is on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion, is frequently left alone on the right side of BWFC’s offense because Josh Dacres-Cogley is a more defensive player. The simplest option would be to transfer Randall to the opposite side of the centre forward, allowing Conway and Cissoko to threaten from the left and Randall and Cozier-Duberry on the right. Randall has yet to reach his real form since joining Bolton Wanderers from Peterborough United; this could finally unlock his true skills and help Bolton Wanderers achieve the outcomes their performances merit.

Sam Dalby’s return to full fitness is crucial

Sam Dalby, a former Wrexham striker, has appeared off the bench twice since returning from injury but has made no influence on the game. However, due to his injury, he missed the most of preseason and will not be fully recovered just yet. His return to full fitness may help Bolton Wanderers become more clinical. While Mason Burstow has not been a problem, adding a more experienced striker could help the Trotters enhance their attack. Creating opportunities isn’t the problem; it’s converting them.

Steven Schumacher needs results soon

Schumacher has a solid track record from his time at Plymouth Argyle and Stoke City, but Bolton Wanderers supporters will not be patient with the well-known manager. The Trotters have not played in the Championship since the 2018/19 season and are eager to return to England’s second tier as soon as possible; they will not wait any longer. If BWFC does not begin to convert their dominance into victories soon, they risk falling behind the league leaders, despite many supporting them for automatic promotion before the season begins.
