Sheffield United keen on deal for Chelsea man

SUFC – Sheffield United have had a tough start to the season and need to bring in some reinforcements to bolster their ranks.

Sheffield United are eyeing a move for Chelsea midfielder Alex Matos as they look to strengthen their squad before the transfer deadline, according to *The Star*.

The Blades have endured a difficult start to the campaign and manager Chris Wilder is determined to add more depth to his midfield options. Matos, 20, is regarded as a promising talent at Stamford Bridge but is currently down the pecking order in West London. That has alerted United, who see him as a player capable of making an impact in the Championship.

The Yorkshire club are eager to finalise a deal before Monday’s transfer deadline. Negotiations are understood to be ongoing, with a loan switch seen as the most likely outcome. A temporary move to Bramall Lane would give Matos valuable first-team experience while providing Wilder’s side with much-needed energy and versatility in the centre of the park.

Sheffield United’s struggles so far have underlined the importance of late reinforcements. With injuries piling up and consistency proving hard to find, the addition of a player of Matos’ calibre could prove crucial as the season progresses.

Matos, who joined Chelsea from Norwich City in 2022, has been on the fringes of the senior setup but has mainly featured for the development side. A move to United would represent his first real taste of regular senior football.

The Blades now face a race against time to get the deal over the line, with the window set to slam shut in just a few days. Supporters will be hoping the club can secure Matos and potentially one or two further signings to provide a much-needed lift ahead of a long, gruelling campaign.
