Sheffield United set to beat Wrexham and Leicester City in signing ‘spectacular’ international star

Sheffield United have been aiming to strengthen their squad on transfer deadline day following their poor start to the Championship campaign, with the Blades identifying an Ipswich Town star as a player that could aid in that ambition.

The Blades lacked dynamism up front against Middlesbrough, failing to create or threaten Rob Edwards’ side over the weekend.
A notable weakness in both their offense and defence was width, and Ruben Selles will have identified this Ipswich Town star as the ideal man to address this issue.

The Spaniard may also point to the fact that this incoming player has 24 international caps and will bring valuable experience from the highest level to the Blades side, as he attempts to put the club’s terrible start to the season behind them during the international break.

Sheffield United sign Chiedozie Ogbene

Sheffield United are thought to have signed Republic of Ireland international Chiedozie Ogbene on loan from Ipswich Town for the duration of the season.

BBC Radio Sheffield originally reported that he had been granted permission to come to Yorkshire ahead of a temporary move.

It was reported that Ogbene was also interested in Championship rivals Leicester City and Wrexham; nonetheless, he has decided to join Sheffield United for the season.

Chiedozie Ogbene for Ireland against Greece

Kieran McKenna revealed over the weekend that a loan move for Ogbene was possible, and it has now happened.
He stated, “There is a possibility that Chieo will move on loan.

“He’s coming back from a really, really big injury and has done terrific to get himself out there for us this year, but probably had to come into competitive games sooner than what would have been ideal.”

Stephen Kenny was a huge fan of Chiedozie Ogbene

The 28-year-old has been a fan favorite in Ireland due to his exploits in his country’s green, with the winger making a significant impression under previous national manager Stephen Kenny.

Ogbene was always a threat under Kenny, as the former Republic of Ireland manager told the Northwich Guardian in March 2022.

He said, “No.” I thought he’d be a major threat to us and had terrific skills, but this is a fantastic start.

“To score three goals in two qualifiers, followed by a massive game against the world’s top team. Aside from his aims, he is currently giving us so much.

“We ask some of the players to raise their game above their club form because that is what we need to accomplish. If we’re going to compete with Belgium, Portugal, Serbia, or any of those teams, we need our players to produce above and beyond what they can achieve for their clubs while representing Ireland. That’s what we need them to do, and Chiedozie is definitely doing that.”
