Why QPR deal for Middlesbrough’s Seny Dieng collapsed – reason has been revealed
In order to become the new Boro number one, Dieng was brought in from Loftus Road, and he remained in that role
until suffering an Achilles injury after the defeat to Leeds.
Rob Edwards’ team were interested in dumping him on deadline day, with QPR eager to see him return, but Sol
Brynn’s rise has left him unfavourable at the club upon his return.
But no agreement was reached, therefore Middlesbrough must now consider their options on what to do with the 30-
year-old.
Why Seny Dieng didn’t make a deadline day return to QPR
The Northern Echo claims that Middlesbrough was pleased to let Dieng to depart on the day of the deadline, as the
team appeared to be fine with Tom Glover and Sol Brynn as its two senior goalkeepers.
Since then, Glover has departed, and experienced goalie Jon McLaughlin has replaced him. However, the Australian
might not have been the only man to leave the Riverside between sick days.
The 30-year-old was Loftus Road’s first-choice custodian for three seasons before joining Boro. However, the
negotiations were cancelled after the two parties failed to reach a financial deal.
Dieng still has two years left on the original four-year contract he signed with Middlesbrough in the summer of 2023,
and it’s obvious that Boro wanted a higher price than the one the Hoops had proposed.
Since he is now fully recovered, the 30-year-old, who is still a Middlesbrough player, may fight Brynn for the top spot
at the Riverside. Or he might still be kicked out this summer.
Middlesbrough may still be able to sell Seny Dieng this summer

Echo, as clubs in Turkey have been mentioned as possible suitors for Dieng. The Turkish Süper Lig transfer window
is still open until September 12.
But now that Glover has left, McLaughlin, 37, has taken his spot. Since leaving Rangers in 2023, McLaughlin has
only played once, losing 3-0 to Southampton in the FA Cup last season when playing for Swansea City.
Dieng should be the obvious backup option at this point, since the seasoned goalie is only available to help and
counsel 24-year-old Brynn.
Therefore, even though there is still time to sell the Senegalese international this summer, the chances of it
happening are far lower than they were only a day ago.
But in the end, everything hinges on Dieng’s time management. With three clean sheets in his first four league
games, Brynn is now Rob Edwards’ number one, so if the 30-year-old is content to be a backup, he’s likely to stay.
