Luca Fletcher joins Ipswich Town’s U21 team on loan from Manchester City

The 18-year-old will join the Under-21 team, which is competing in the elite academy football league this season, led by Chris Casement and John McGreal.
According to reports, his loan move includes buy-back and sell-on provisions in addition to an obligation to buy. After apparently declining a two-year contract with the Royals, Fletcher began his career with his hometown team, Reading, before joining City in the summer of 2023. During the 2023–24 season, he made 17 appearances for City’s under-18 team, contributing 10 goals and four assists. Fletcher played in City’s FA Youth Cup final loss to Aston Villa in May of last year, scoring 12 goals and dishing out six assists in 39 Premier League 2 games.
This versatile forward, who has previously earned England youth caps, can play both left and right but is primarily a central striker. “We are happy to have been able to bring Luca into the group,” stated Ben Chenery, the academy manager for Town. “We are excited to have him join us and think he can help us both during his time with us and as we strive to advance the U21 program after the transfer to Premier League 2.A versatile forward, who has previously been capped by England at youth level, he is primarily a central striker but also able to operate on the left and right
