Ipswich Town make decision on unique double deal for Ashley Young’s son

Ipswich Town decides on a special double agreement for the son of Ashley Young.

After his Everton contract expired, the former England international Young signed a one-year contract with the recently relegated Suffolk team in July. The 40-year-old, who last played for Watford in 2006, is making his second-tier comeback for the first time in 20 years. However, he wasn’t the only Young to show up at Portman Road.

Tyler, his son, was unable to play his father in the FA Cup last season since he was at Peterborough United until this summer. According to reports, he subsequently moved to Ipswich to join his father, where he began trialling with their academy team in late July. A decision on Young’s future has now been made. The Youngs have now advanced beyond simply playing against rival sides in an FA Cup match. The East Anglian Daily Times reports that Young, 19, has committed to the Ipswich Under-21 team. Despite spending the entire preseason on trial, he has finally signed a contract to become a regular member of the team.

No father-son duo has played for the same team since the Championship was renamed in 2004. Stranger things have happened, but young junior will be with the Under-21s and his dad has a one-year contract. Tyler, who had played for MK Dons, Queens Park Rangers, and Arsenal, made one senior appearance for the Posh. He and his father have apparently been fitting down nicely in Suffolk since quitting the League One team. In mid-August, he was benched in the Premier League 2 match against Derby’s Under-21s.
