Stansfield, who scored 23 goals and provided three assists in 44 games last season as his team swept to the League One title and advanced to the Vertu Trophy final, joined Birmingham on a permanent basis from Fulham last summer for an incredible fee of over £15 million after a successful loan season.

The good news for Davies is that Stansfield’s injury prognosis is even better than he had anticipated, and as FLW exclusively disclosed, the 22-year-old might even be able to play in the first game back after the international break when the team travels to Stoke City next weekend.

“He’s going to be a big player for them this season,” Hendrie told FLW.
“I am confident that Jay Stansfield will continue to be a huge success at the club, as he has done thus far.
“I believe there were concerns that he would have a more serious injury, but the evidence and circumstances at this time don’t support that.
“Happy days for Birmingham, they’ll be over the moon with that.
“Hopefully he will be fit for the next game because, although they’ve got a big squad of players, I think he is one of the big players.”

Davies will be extremely relieved that Stansfield might be back available as soon as next weekend, despite concerns that he would be facing a lengthy layoff when he was shown limping about the training ground wearing a protective boot.
