How Nigerian media rated new £24m Wolves signing Tolu Arokodare vs Rwanda

Wolves supporters got a first look at what Tolu Arokodare could provide in an old gold shirt yesterday when he

played for Nigeria against Rwanda.

Supporters were disappointed to learn that Arokodare was the only player Wolves signed on deadline day.

On the last day, fans had hoped to see two or three fresh recruits.

However, the club ultimately only signed Tolu Arokodare, whose signature had been anticipated for a few days.

The arrival of a new midfield player had been anticipated by many. However, Jeff Shi said that he and Vitor Pereira

ultimately determined that a new midfield player wasn’t required.

Arokodare was a good addition, nevertheless, despite the irritation.

And yesterday, the big man was in action for his country.

Wolves striker Tolu Arokodare impresses as Nigeria beat Rwanda

Some have not given Arokodare much hoopla thus far because his arrival was anticipated and many were

preoccupied with the last-minute hunt for a new midfield player.

However, he scored in a 1-0 victory over Rwanda in World Cup qualification yesterday, which caused some people to

rise up and take notice.

Shortly after halftime, Arokodare scored for the Super Eagles after coming off the bench.

The goal was a rough one, as the striker had an earlier attempt saved then volleyed in from point blank range,

missing the crossbar.

The result meant Nigeria leapfrogged Rwanda to go third in Group C, six points behind leaders South Africa. Nigeria

face South Africa on Tuesday in what has now become a crunch match.

Nigerian media outlet Pulse Sports were fairly impressed by Arokodare against Rwanda, rating him 7/10 and saying:

“The match winner came on as a halftime substitute, replacing the ineffective Frank Onyeka and was a thorn in the

side of the Amavubi defence for the rest of the game.

When the Super Eagles sat back to absorb pressure, he held up play and won aerial balls with his flawlessly shaped

frame. As previously mentioned, his goal in the 51st minute, which was the result of his pure effort, was his most

telling contribution to the game.

“The Wolverhampton Wanderers forward changed the dynamic of the Super Eagles’ attack immediately he stepped

onto the pitch in the 46th minute,” stated Soccernet, who rated him 7.5.

“He fought hard in every aerial battle, and in the end, his efforts paid off as he scored tonight’s lone goal for Nigeria—

his second goal wearing a Super Eagles jersey.”

Complete Sports dished out an 8/10 rating and said: “(Arokodare) Came in before the start of the second half and got

the much-needed goal.

“Aside from the goal he was a handful for the Rwandan defence due to his brilliant holdup play.”

Arokodare’s contribution led to him being named the official Man of the Match.

Arokodare could be a real hit at Wolves

A large sum of money was paid to sign Arokodare.

Wolves seldom spend £24 million (BBC SPort) on a single player these days, so there will be pressure on him to

perform.

Arokodare, however, has a lot of potential for Wolves. He scored 23 goals for Genk the previous season, and it seems

likely that he will adjust well to the Premier League’s roughness.

Because of how Arokodare appeared on his first day at Compton Park, fans already appreciate his character.

However, it is hoped that he will also be a success on the pitch and relieve Jorgen Strand Larsen of some of his

workload.
