After being fired, Nuno Espirito Santo’s intriguing stats at Wolves and Nottingham Forest were compared.
Nuno Espirito Santo, who became a Wolves icon during his tenure as manager, might now be compared to his time at Forest.
Following two seventh-place finishes and a strong Europa League run, the Portuguese manager led Wolves to promotion to the Premier League in his debut season in 2017–18. He would remain with the team until 2021, and following a lacklustre stint at Spurs, he flourished once more when joining Forest. But what’s the difference between the two tenures? Nuno oversaw 60 Premier League games while he was at the City Ground and 114 while he was at Molineux.

Despite overseeing nearly twice as many Wolves games, his statistics for the two teams are very comparable. Nobody could have predicted how well Forest would do the previous season; they maintained a top-four position until the last few weeks, when a little decline sent them to seventh place. Nuno didn’t get the opportunity to play in Europe with Forest this season, but his run in the Europa League in 2019–20 earned him legend status at Wolves. Nuno’s reputation as one of the best managers to coach the Old Gold was solidified throughout his tenure with Wolves.
Forest was offering something similar, but their relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis deteriorated in a very visible way. Nuno was dissatisfied with the club’s hiring after demonstrating his ability to get the squad into the top half of the league. It will be interesting to see where Nuno ends up next. Although there aren’t any openings in the Premier League right now, history indicates that at least one position will become available if he waits until Christmas. We most definitely don’t want Nuno to leave the top flight of England after this.
