The lowdown on Barnsley
Since 2014, Barnsley has experienced five promotions out of League One and relegations from the Championship, making them a yo-yo team in the EFL.
They will, however, be playing English football for the third time in a row for the fourth straight season, which marks their longest stay in the level in more than 50 years (1968 to 1971).
They made a smart hiring decision when they signed David McGoldrick, a reliable striker, on a free transfer from Notts County, and Tennai Watson, a highly regarded wing-back, who chose to move north after his contract at Charlton Athletic expired.
Additionally, keeping hold of Luca Connell after much interest, mainly from Wycombe Wanderers, has proved to be vital, as he has started each of Barnsley’s last six league matches this season.
He even scored in their recent 3-1 home victory against Huddersfield Town just before the international break, as the Tykes made it four league goals wins from six to start the league season strongly.
