3 long-term Sondre Tronstad replacements Blackburn Rovers should consider amid exit admission

3 long-term Sondre Tronstad replacements Blackburn Rovers should consider amid exit admission.

This season, Blackburn Rovers began with a revamped roster, bringing in some new players while saying goodbye to

other key players.

Lewis Travis and Dom Hyam were among those that moved on, being sold to Derby County and Wrexham,

respectively. Despite their significance to the team, Rovers took the difficult decision to cash in and make some

money while they could because both players’ contracts were expiring in the summer.

Sondre Tronstad, a midfielder, appears to be leaving for nothing, though. Given that the Norwegian was bought on a

free transfer, Rudy Gestede recently reaffirmed his belief that he will go next summer with less pressure to cash in.

However, Blackburn Rovers must be ready to cover the midfield void left by his departure. Having stated that, we

suggest three long-term substitutes to consider.

Anton Saletros – AIK

There are similarities between a move for Anton Saletros and Blackburn Rovers’ acquisition of Tronstad, an

accomplished Scandinavian midfielder with a strong club and international background.

AIK captain Saletros has the ability to fill the leadership and experience gap in Ismael’s team. He is mostly a box-to-

box midfielder, although he also has the versatility to play deeper or even out on the left.

A fee would be necessary because the 29-year-old Sweden international has a contract that expires in 2028. It is

difficult to imagine a deal going bankrupt, though, and Saletros might immediately establish himself as a major

player.

Regan Slater – Hull City

Blackburn Rovers might be smart to hire domestically to make up for the Championship experience that was lost in

the squad over the summer. In that case, they ought to be interested in Regan Slater’s circumstances at Hull City.

The former Sheffield United midfielder has not been a reliable starter under Sergej Jakirovic and is currently in the

last 12 months of his contract with the Tigers. The chance to remain at the level and get more playing time with

Blackburn Rovers might alter his head.

Along with his Championship experience, Slater would add some much-needed versatility to Ismael’s midfield as a

guy who can play as a central or defensive midfielder.

Freddie Potts – West Ham

Last but not least, Freddie Potts is attempting to break through at West Ham as a senior. Following an incredible

2024–25 season spent on loan in the Championship with Portsmouth, he has been offered the opportunity to do so.

If Potts doesn’t get any playing time in East London, Blackburn Rovers might jump in with a permanent offer

because he has demonstrated that he deserves to be playing frequently at the senior level. Although he wouldn’t be

inexpensive, the 22-year-old has a lot of potential and might be worth a lot to Rovers in the future.

He might be a great addition to Ismael’s midfield and a seamless replacement for Tronstand, offering both

immediate and long-term promise.
