Graham Smyth questions something Daniel Farke did in Leeds United draw vs Bournemouth

Daniel Farke’s actions during Leeds United’s draw with Bournemouth are questioned by Graham Smyth.

After all the effort his side put in to gain the lead, Daniel Farke may still be feeling guilty about seeing them collapse so late. Although it might be argued that a number of Leeds players may have been positioned more effectively, Joe Rodon has publicly taken responsibility for Bournemouth’s equaliser.

Graham Smyth, an authority on Leeds United, has now questioned whether Daniel Farke could have done more to guarantee his club won the match. For the majority of the match, Leeds outplayed and outfought Bournemouth, and they may have had enough chances in the first half to end the match. Although Smyth has stated that any late replacements could have avoided the late equaliser, Farke deserves some credit for setting up his team to dominate Bournemouth for the majority of this match.

“We didn’t really manage to get into the substitutions,” he stated in an interview with The Square Ball podcast. “Do you want Jaka Bijol to head everything away in the 93rd or 94th minute from the penalty box? Do you want Daniel James on the pitch to give you a release or just someone to vent to? Leeds can claim to have played well in every Premier League match this season, with the exception of their 5-0 thrashing at Arsenal.

One could argue that they should have more points, but they only have eight from their first six games. They would have easily won a draw if they had remained steadfast in defence against Fulham for a few more seconds. And it was a late loss in concentration that cost them another two points against Bournemouth.

Minute Substitution
67′ Jack Harrison for Noah Okafor
87′ Ao Tanaka for Brenden Aaronson
90′ Lukas Nmecha for Dominic Calvert-Lewin
The substitutes made by Leeds against Bournemouth Leeds must figure out a method to keep their defensive unity until the very end because, regrettably, “deserved points” are worthless in the Premier League.

Both the management and the players need to take note of this lesson. In the Premier League, there are rarely any “safe” moments, particularly when you’re fighting to stay in the league. They don’t want to find themselves lamenting these late goals at the end of the season, even though they are now well clear of the relegation zone.
