Birmingham City fans slammed by their owner during Wrexham game as social media footage emerges

Birmingham City fans slammed by their owner during Wrexham game as social media footage emerges.

On Friday night, Birmingham City travelled to North Wales to play their new rivals, Wrexham, at the Racecourse. Birmingham City won the rematch at St Andrew’s last season, while the two clubs drew in Wales. Additionally, Friday’s game ended in a draw.

George Dobson gave Wrexham the lead at half-time but right after the restart, Blues equalised through Patrick Roberts as Wrexham and Birmingham City eventually drew 1-1.

Among the sold out Racecourse crowd was Birmingham City owner Tom Wagner.

Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds, the proprietors of Wrexham, frequently go to games. Mac even sat alongside the supporters during last season’s League One match against Blackpool. Wagner, however, travelled to North Wales on Friday night and joined the supporters in the stands.

MAt half-time, the American businessman gave a rallying cry to supporters, insisting that they hadn’t been good enough in the first half with Wrexham by far the better team. It appeared to work with Birmingham City the better side in the second half.

Wagner was filmed saying: “The energy on the pitch isn’t great. But they’re going to feed off of us, and we haven’t been great either.”

Wagner said: “It makes me chuckle when Wrexham fans scoff at what we’ve spent and how we’ve gone about it, let’s be clear, Wrexham have achieved their success because they’ve driven commercial revenue. Birmingham have always been a much bigger club.”

With Tom Brady participating at Birmingham City, there is obviously now some sort of rivalry between the two, albeit a more manufactured one given their US ownership and celebrity ownership. However, it’s obvious that Wagner doesn’t think much of Wrexham.

However, it adds another thrilling match to the schedule when Wrexham travels to Birmingham City in April of the following year.
