Dael Fry makes strong Middlesbrough promise after the hurt of Portsmouth defeat

Dael Fry makes big Middlesbrough commitment after the hurt of Portsmouth defeat

Dael Fry, the captain of Middlesbrough, assured fans that the team will use the pain of their season’s first loss to offer them plenty more opportunities to cheer.

Minhyeok Yang’s goal in the first half cost Boro a 1-0 loss at Portsmouth. As free-scoring Coventry City jumped ahead of Boro at the top of the league table, ending their eight-game winning streak to open the new season. At Fratton Park, a sold-out 2,100-strong away end supported Boro, and even after the team’s loss, fans stayed until full time to express their gratitude to the players. It was a significant occasion for proud Teessider Fry, and he hopes they can return the favour.

“We’re disappointed,” he said to BBC Tees. It’s a difficult place. This is our first loss of the season, but we’ve had a great run so far. We were always going to have to experience it eventually. Naturally, the boys are disappointed in that place. We just dropped a match. But when you consider the start we’ve enjoyed – eight unbeaten, our best start ever… We probably needed to taste this. Hopefully, we can use it to go on another run and maintain our position at the top of the Championship because the guys don’t want to experience this again.

“I also want to thank the fans,” he continued. We are grateful for the large number of trips they have made this season. They deserve a huge shout-out since this is a long journey, and even though we left without any results, they continued to applaud and cheer us on at the finish. Throughout the season, we will give them much more to be happy about. After missing three games because of a calf injury, Fry made his first appearance on the field versus Portsmouth. He had made a comeback from the bench in the midweek draw with Stoke, which prepared him to start at Fratton Park again.

Fry described his feelings following the incident as follows: “I was disappointed to get injured when I did.” For me, it was somewhat of a setback. However, I love wearing the Middlesbrough shirt, especially when it comes with the armband. I get ecstatic every time I wear the Middlesbrough badge on the pitch. I think I’ve only had two or three training sessions in the last two or three weeks, so it was difficult. It is a nice time for the break. We may take a break, rest, and then, when we return on a Friday night, begin planning for another important game.
