Bolton Wanderers: Steven Schumacher urged to take transfer action with Stoke City player name-dropped.

Bolton Wanderers are entering a critical summer transfer window following a disappointing season in League One.
This season, the Trotters finished eighth in the third tier, a significant drop from their previous third and fifth-place finishes.
Wanderers’ mid-season sacking of Ian Evatt and subsequent appointment of Steven Schumacher in January did not result in a play-off spot, as they fell 10 points behind.
As a result, the club faces a critical summer transfer window as Schumacher seeks to build a squad capable of correcting this season’s mistakes and returning to League One as a genuine promotion contender the following year.
“I can see why” – Transfer claim made on Bolton Wanderers striker; Stoke City star name-dropped.
Victor Adeboyejo, a Nigerian striker, is one Wanderers player who could be let go this summer after a disappointing season.
We asked our Bolton Wanderers fan pundit, Liam O’Meara: “With only three goals in 27 League One appearances this past season, is it time for Bolton to upgrade on Victor Adeboyejo in the summer transfer window?”
According to O’Meara, Bolton may need to find a replacement for Victor Adeboyejo due to his serious injury that will keep him out until the winter season.
| Adeboyejo’s Bolton career stats (all comps) – per FotMob | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| Season | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| 24/25 | 35 | 4 | 0 |
| 23/24 | 46 | 10 | 2 |
| 22/23 | 18 | 3 | 2 |
“So, Bolton will be coming in light at that position, and yes, the stats don’t look good in terms of what he’s scored in his previous games, but regardless of whether they want to keep him or not, we are light in that position.
“He won’t be playing until then. Bolton should definitely consider this option. I can see why we’re linked with players like Niall Ennis, who Steven Schumacher has previously worked with.
“It makes complete sense.”
Bolton may need a more impactful backup striker than Victor Adeboyejo if they want to get promoted to League One
Regardless of Adeboyejo’s situation, Bolton will likely look to strengthen their center-forward position this summer, as O’Meara mentioned.
Kion Etete has returned to his parent club Cardiff City after a disappointing loan spell, leaving Wanderers with only Aaron Collins, John McAtee, and returning loanee Dan Nlundulu as natural and senior centre-forwards.
Given Schumacher’s tendency to deploy a large number of forwards in attack, Bolton needs to have a strong attacking depth.
Having quality and impactful players to come off the bench and play starting roles in times of injury or rotation is essential for any successful team.
However, given Adeboyejo’s three league goals in 27 appearances this season, there will undoubtedly be questions about his ability to play that type of role going forward.
Ennis, a striker for Stoke City, has established himself as a valuable player in League One. According to Football League World, Bolton is interested in signing him this summer.
He scored seven goals and provided two assists in 19 third-tier appearances while on loan at Blackpool in the second half of the season. He has also scored double-figure goals at this level for Plymouth Argyle.
The Potters striker could significantly improve Adeboyejo’s performance and contribute to Bolton’s strong attacking unit in the third tier next season.
