Next QPR Manager: New candidate emerges with Huddersfield Town and Cardiff City also linked

Three EFL clubs, including QPR, are said to respect St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson.

Given the uncertainty surrounding Marti Cifuentes’ future at Loftus Road, three teams are considering a move for St

Mirren boss Stephen Robinson, including QPR.

Before the Championship season ended, the 42-year-old was put on “gardening leave” when it was rumoured that his

representation were negotiating with West Brom after Tony Mowbray was fired. It was also alleged that Cifuentes

and Christian Nourry, the CEO of QPR, had a falling out.

In recent weeks, a number of contenders have surfaced to succeed Cifuentes. Although former Watford player Tom

Cleverley and former Lyon manager Pierre Sage are currently leading candidates, it has not yet been formally

announced that Cifuentes will not be taking his place again.

Alan Nixon now claims on Patreon that QPR are considering Robinson as a candidate. League One side Huddersfield

Town and Cardiff City – who were relegated from the Championship this season – are also named as admirers of the

50-year-old.

Robinson led St Mirren to three top six finishes after taking over in 2022, earning a position in the Europa

Conference League qualifying round for 2024–2025. In his previous EFL jobs, the coach had short stints with

Oldham Athletic and Morecambe.

In October 2024, the manager committed to the St. Mirren club through 2027 by signing a new deal. When signing

that agreement, Robinson stated: “I’m really happy here.

“Over the past two and a half seasons, we’ve experienced tremendous success. We’ve worked very hard on that and

hope to keep improving it. There has been a lot of excellent work done by the academy and the club overall. Jim

Gillespie, Keith Lasley, and I have a great working relationship, and we all want to see the club succeed.

I thought it was time to make a commitment and, ideally, keep going in the right way. Although we’ve had some

difficult outcomes in recent weeks, we have a strong belief in the club and what we do, and I’m glad to strive to

advance the organisation.

As a first-team coach, I’ve spent 80% of my time helping individual players get better. I consider myself to be an

expert at this, and I aspire to return to that position. That is quite evident.

In other news, some believe that by hiring this manager, QPR can convert the former Tottenham wonderkid into a

“monster.”
