Ex-Stoke City, Sheffield Wednesday and West Brom boss Tony Pulis set for surprise new job.

TONY PULIS ZAMALEK

Tony Pulis, the former manager of Stoke City, Sheffield Wednesday, and West Bromwich Albion, is reportedly set to take on a surprising new role as sporting director at Egyptian club Zamalek.

According to a recent report from Egyptian outlet Yallakora, Pulis’ next destination is revealed after over four years away from football.

The 67-year-old has had a long and successful career in the dugout, spending the majority of it in the Championship and Premier League. Pulis is well-known for guiding Stoke City to their first-ever top-flight promotion and establishing the club at the highest level during his second seven-year tenure in Staffordshire.

Pulis has also worked for Crystal Palace, West Brom, Middlesbrough, and, most recently, Sheffield Wednesday, his final managerial position. The Welshman left Hillsborough in December 2020 and has yet to return to management, but he is preparing to return to football in a new capacity.

Although a final agreement has not yet been reached, it appears that Pulis will land the role and “will be present” for Zamalek’s match against Pyramids.

According to Zamelek, Pulis will “significantly add to the rearrangement and organisation of the entire footballing sector.”

If Pulis is hired, he will face high expectations given his pedigree and proven track record at the highest level.

Zamalek is an interesting opportunity for Tony Pulis.

Pulis’ unconventional move may initially perplex supporters of Stoke and the Baggies.

However, Zamalek is a massive club by Egyptian standards, so it’s easy to see why Pulis was drawn to this opportunity.

Zamalek is one of the world’s top 20 clubs in terms of titles, having won the Egyptian Premier League 14 times, 28 Egypt Cups, and five CAF Champions League titles.

Zamalek’s home stadium, the Cairo International Stadium, can seat up to 75,000 fans, and Pulis will undoubtedly relish the opportunity to oversee the sporting operations of such a large club.
