Watford FC: Mileta Rajovic plan emerges as Brondby return nears

According to Tipsbladet, Mileta Rajovic will return to Watford’s squad in the summer, hoping to play a role following his loan from Brondby.

Watford FC’s next manager remains unknown, making for an uncertain summer ahead.

The Hornets’ hierarchy made the controversial decision to part ways with Tom Cleverley earlier this month. The former midfielder had received high praise for his efforts despite little investment in the Vicarage Road playing squad.

Before Cleverley took over, the club signed Danish striker Mileta Rajovic from Kalmarr FF for a reported £1.3 million. Rajovic scored 11 goals in his first season. However, a loan to Brondby IF was approved last September, keeping him there until this summer.

According to Tipsbladet, Watford FC plans to reintegrate Rajovic into their squad this summer. Brondby do not have a buy option for the striker and do not intend to make such a move anyway.

The Hornets believe Rajovic still has a bright future at Vicarage Road and could get another chance next season.

Who performs at Elland Road?

Deserves another chance at Watford.

Rajovic has demonstrated his ability to score goals at Championship level, despite not being the most visually appealing player at Watford.

The 25-year-old has 14 goals in 48 games for the Hornets, which, while not particularly impressive, demonstrates his ability to contribute consistently over the course of a season. He scored three goals in five games prior to his loan to Brondby.

Brondby has eight goals and two assists in 26 games, which is a fairly good return, especially given how few starts have occurred in the last two months. His goal-scoring record warrants another chance at Vicarage Road.

Plugging the gap on top

During the 2024/25 season, Watford FC struggled with a lack of depth in their attack, and Cleverley did not benefit from any successful transfers.

Vakoun Bayo scored the most goals (10), but the majority of the contributions came from midfielders. Edo Kayembe scored eight goals, while Moussa Sissoko added six.

When Bayo’s form dipped, only youngster Mamadou Doumbia could be called upon up top, and while he is a promising prospect, it appears that he is too young to start Championship games as the lead man up front.

Rajovic’s return will give the next manager another attacking option, but he will also need to sign a new striker.
