Exclusive: Should Danny Rohl be hired, Kevin Thelwell is the transfer target to avoid a Rangers move.

During the summer transfer window, Rangers made an unsuccessful attempt to sign Sheffield Wednesday custodian Charles. The 20-year-old Northern Ireland international was reportedly the target of a £1 million deal from the Gers. The Independent claims that despite the fact that the money would have greatly aided Dejphon Chansiri in making sure that staff and players were paid on schedule, the offer was rejected.
According to a source who spoke to Ibrox News, Kevin Thelwell, the sporting director for the Rangers, has been interested in Charles since the summer. Sal Bibbo, who had previously worked with Charles at Sheffield Wednesday, became the goalkeeping coach for Rangers in June. It is well known that Bibbo adores Charles and wants to teach him once more at Ibrox.
- This season, Charles has made three appearances for Sheffield Wednesday, giving up eight goals. He has had a shoulder injury that has kept him out of action since August. In August, the eight-cap Northern Ireland goalie defeated Bolton in a shootout by saving two penalties. Press play on the video below to witness Charles’ heroics on the penalty. However, with former Owls manager Rohl rumoured to be filling the managerial void in Govan, Russell Martin’s departure from Rangers and a change in leadership may put an end to any hopes of the Manchester-born custodian making a move.

After the 36-year-old German departed Sheffield Wednesday in a contentious manner in the summer, Rohl would be eager to take over as Rangers’ next manager. Charles is a target for Rangers, regardless of whether Rohl becomes their new manager, according to information obtained by Ibrox News. However, Thelwell’s efforts to sign the Northern Ireland custodian may be in vain if he is not eager to work with his old Hillsborough manager again.
