Aberdeen was punished by the SPFL for using an ineligible player during the cup match.

The SPFL punished Aberdeen for fielding an ineligible player during their B team’s cup match.
The youthful Dons have lost their first four meetings with Peterhead, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Montrose, and Forfar Athletic since entering the KDM Evolution Trophy. The Reds were sanctioned by the SPFL for their 2-1 loss to Forfar on September 23, which put the club in hot water with the regulatory body. The name of the ineligible player who played against the Loons is unknown.
Since then, Aberdeen has been fined £1,000, half of which will be suspended until June 30, 2026. Forfar has also won 3-0. “The SPFL has sanctioned Aberdeen FC for fielding an ineligible player in their B team’s KDM Evolution Trophy match against Forfar Athletic on Tuesday, September 23, which Forfar won 2-1,” the SPFL statement continued.
“The following penalties will be in effect: (i) The Club received criticism and a warning over its behaviour going forward; (ii) Forfar Athletic will win the KDM Evolution Trophy match against Aberdeen B by a score of 3-0, and the league phase standings will be adjusted appropriately; “(iii) A fine of £1,000, of which £500 is suspended until 30 June 2026 pending any further breaches of SPFL Player Regulations.”
