“The pressure is on”: Noel Hunt’s warning on his future with Reading FC
In the previous season, the Royals finished seventh in the standings, three points behind sixth-place Leyton Orient, and missed out on a play-off spot. However, as we approach the quarter-mark, the Berkshire team has only managed to accumulate 11 points from their first 11 games of the new season, placing them within the relegation zone. They are now 10 points below sixth-place Lincoln City and one point behind Burton Albion, who are outside the bottom four, after three draws in their previous three games.
They will require an abrupt and significant change in fortune if they hope to contend for a play-off spot this season. Johnny Hunt, a fan pundit for FLW’s Reading, stated that he has until the November international break to improve his situation or else he should be replaced when asked about the possibility of replacing Hunt. He emphasised that the 4-3-3 was inappropriate for the team he currently had and asked the manager to alter his approach. Hunt told Football League World, “It’s a tough one, 11 games into the season, 11 points, and in the relegation zone.”

Since Gareth Ainsworth and Matt Bloomfield have ties to owner Rob Couhig, Hunt is dubious of who should take over as manager in the event that a change is made. “Who is the question? The chairman reportedly mentioned having a book with one or two names in it. I assume that these are people he knows and trusts, most likely from his time at Wycombe, such as Ainsworth and Bloomfield. However, they aren’t exactly managers of wow factors.
“I notice that Luton has Wilshere [Monday], which is a little surprising because he is a less experienced player. “For whom would you go? Why would somebody want to visit us? Because it’s difficult to call in this situation. Hunt has also asserted that Reading should stay away from traditional managers like Steve Bruce, claiming that promotion from League One would be ideal: “You want someone with this degree of expertise who can lead the team and has a track record of being promoted from League One. It would be difficult for me to identify who it might be.
“We don’t need to look at one of those; Steve Bruce’s old school managers are done and done. “But the ideal candidate would be someone who aligns with our goals.” Despite having a game in hand over several of their competitors, Reading is currently ranked 21st in League One after 11 games. Hunt’s team will next travel to Cardiff City, where they will kick off at 3 p.m. on October 18. Reading finally entered a new season with cause for optimism after everything that had happened behind the scenes.
Their seventh-place finish indicated they could be able to compete for promotion this year, and Hunt had also done a fantastic job of bringing the team back to stability at the Madejski Stadium. Although an unimpressive start is disheartening, he has merited the chance to be given some time to improve, particularly as they have already gone four straight games without losing.
