Norwich City have confirmed talks are ongoing over the potential extension of Lewis Dobbin’s loan deal.

Norwich City are preparing for an important transfer window as they look to make strides back towards the top end of the Championship table. NCFC need to strengthen the ranks, but they also need to hire a new manager.

The Canaries parted ways with Johannes Hoff Thorup due to poor results. It seems the club were hopeful of a stronger push for the play-offs, something they ultimately fell way short off.

Nonetheless, the focus now turns to the transfer window, and decisions have been made over the players on the books at Carrow Road. Youngsters and senior players alike have departed, while talks are ongoing with others.

Now, Norwich City have confirmed one man they are in talks about keeping is Lewis Dobbin.

The winger is only on loan from Premier League side Aston Villa and no option to buy was included in the winter agreement, but NCFC state they are speaking with the Villans one the possibility of Dobbin’s loan being extended.

Dobbin found a starting role under Thorup but his season was curtailed by injury. Nonetheless, it seems they saw enough promise in his 11 outings to warrant talks over a new loan.

Dobbin was touted as a bright prospect when coming through the Everton academy but is still in the formative years of his senior career.

A first loan with Derby County yielded five goals and six assists in 54 games while they were in League One but in 27 Championship games across spells with Norwich City and West Brom, Dobbin has scored just two goals.

The output hasn’t quite been there for Dobbin on the senior stage just yet but he’s a developing player with a high ceiling. It seems NCFC have faith in his potential too as they line him up for a second loan despite the fairly limited impact over the course of 2025.

An important position for Norwich City

Dobbin can play on either flank but is best on the left-wing. That position is sure to be under scrutiny at Norwich City this summer.

Spanish star Borja Sainz has had that spot locked down but his impressive campaign seems likely to earn him a summer move. A replacement will be needed, and Dobbin may get the chance to fill his boots if a new loan deal can be struck with Aston Villa.

The Canaries would likely target another addition in that area regardless, perhaps someone more proven for Dobbin to battle with. However, there are changes to the squad expected this summer and the left of the attack could be somewhere that opens up for a new player to claim as their own.
