UEFA Conference League match winner: Departed Sheffield Wednesday star hits the ground running with new club

UEFA Conference League match winner: Former Sheffield Wednesday star starts the ground running with new team.

Anthony Musaba was one of several players who left Sheffield Wednesday over the summer, but how is he doing at his new club?

Sheffield Wednesday parted ways with numerous players during the summer transfer window, including Dutch winger Anthony Musaba.

Sheffield Wednesday were mostly powerless to reject interest in key players during the summer transfer window.

Bids for Pierce Charles were turned down, which surprised many. Beyond him, SWFC had little leverage in negotiations with teams wanting to take advantage of their troubles and acquire good assets at a discount.

Wednesday had intended to make more money on winger Anthony Musaba. Though occasionally difficult in terms of end product and consistency, it was evident that the Dutchman possessed intriguing potential and some dangerous outstanding characteristics.

The 24-year-old departed Sheffield Wednesday very early in the transfer window, joining Turkish side Samsunspor at the start of July.

Before moving to England with Sheffield Wednesday, he spent time in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, playing for various clubs. There were some significant ones, too, such as AS Monaco, from which SWFC signed the winger.

He had long been regarded as someone with high potential, and the early indicators of his tenure with Samsunspor are positive.

The winger has been complimented for his spirited displays, and the statistics are also interesting. Two goals and an assist in eight games across all competitions is a great start, with the most notable goal coming in a 1-0 UEFA Conference League victory over Legia Warsaw. Musaba’s anticipated assists total of 1.70 places him in the top 4% of all Turkish Super Lig wingers (FotMob). Other notable statistics include his 37 touches in the opposition box, 12 successful dribbles, 27 recoveries, and 8 possessions won in the final third.

In addition, he is tied for second in the division in opportunities created by wingers.

Sheffield Wednesday’s turmoil means ambitious signings won’t come for a time.

Musaba was one of the few Sheffield Wednesday acquisitions who felt like they were made with the long term in mind following their promotion from League One. Along with Djeidi Gassama, he arrived as a raw winger with the potential to become a future star. Anthony Musaba’s Sheffield Wednesday statistics – courtesy Transfermarkt.

Such recruitment is done with the hopes of creating a large profit in the coming years. Though it has never been acknowledged, it is likely that SWFC did not make the money they expected from Musaba’s sale. And, in such a scenario, the Owls are unlikely to be able to adopt such a strategy for the foreseeable future. They will most likely have to rely only on loans, free transfers, and, in the long run, signings for tiny financial sums.
