Blackburn Rovers team up with contractor to tackle roadworker abuse

Blackburn Rovers, a football team, and Multevo, a national contractor, have joined forces to address roadworker abuse. The campaign was started during Mental Health Awareness Week.

By highlighting the negative effects of abuse on football players and road workers, the campaign hopes to persuade people to behave differently.

Since the beginning of 2024, Multevo, which employs over 370 people, has received over 150 reports of verbal or physical harassment at work.

A film featuring Multevo traffic management officers Tommy Gorman, Shane Lane, and Jason Evans, as well as Blackburn Rovers players Cauley Woodrow and Dom Hyam, is part of the promotion.

The consequences of the abuse that both football players and roadworkers endure is examined in the video.

“People just seem to see us as an obstruction in the road,” stated Tommy Gorman.

“Try to see us as humans rather than objects, it would probably make the world a better place.”

“People don’t realize that as football players, we are just people,” Cauley Woodrow continued.

“I believe that people tend to overlook a football player’s humanity.

“So, if we don’t perform, we then get a lot of abuse.”

Promoting mental health assistance for victims of abuse is another goal of the program.
