Ruben Amorim is apparently personally driving Manchester United’s move to sign a Premier League rival comparable to Michael Carrick as he tries to finally make his imprint on his team.
Amorim admits Manchester United humiliation.
To suggest Ruben Amorim’s reign at Manchester United has not gone as planned would be an understatement. The former Sporting Club manager arrived at a club in disarray. Six months later, however, the same club is lower than it has ever been in the Premier League.
Concerns about their position in the race for European football have led the Red Devils to keep an eye on the drop zone at times throughout the current season. That, more than anything, exemplifies how far they’ve gone since Amorim’s arrival in November.
The Manchester United manager has not shied away from criticism, confessing his chagrin at his team’s league position following another setback at Old Trafford, this time against West Ham United.
Amorim told reporters, “For me, the biggest issue is that notion that ‘it’s OK’ and ‘we can’t modify our position too much so it’s OK’. That is our club’s biggest problem right now because we have lost the sense that we are a gigantic club and losing a game at home is the end of the world. That, I believe, is our club’s most serious worry.
“How a Manchester United manager should feel in that situation is ashamed, which is difficult to comprehend. I believe that everyone involved in this situation must seriously consider several issues. Everyone is thinking about the finale. The final is not a worry for our club right now.”
Amorim personally drives Manchester United’s Wharton move.
Arguably more knowledgeable than anybody else of what the club requires this summer, the Portuguese manager has apparently set his sights on a single target.

According to Caught Offside, Amorim is now directly spearheading Manchester United’s move to capture Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton.
The Red Devils are apparently in the strongest position to sign the England international, along with Newcastle United, but any deal will not be cheap, with Palace reportedly demanding more than £80 million to trade their star player this summer.
| Premier League stats 24/25 (via FBref) | Adam Wharton | Manuel Ugarte |
|---|---|---|
| Minutes | 1,318 | 1,764 |
| Progressive Passes | 107 | 60 |
| Interceptions | 20 | 27 |
| Ball Recoveries | 102 | 122 |
Despite playing over 300 fewer minutes than Manuel Ugarte this season due to injury issues, Wharton has surpassed the Manchester United midfielder in possession while nearly matching his figures off the ball.
It should come as no surprise that the Crystal Palace star has received plaudits from the likes of Rio Ferdinand, who stated on his YouTube channel: “Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton – I’d go and get him. “I’d choose him because he can take the ball and transfer it through the middle of the pitch.”
He has a wide range of passes. I believe he would make an excellent addition to the squad, particularly as a young English star.
