Scott Parker lays out roadmap for Burnley’s long-term injury absentees

Scott Parker expects Burnley’s long-term absentees will be ready for the start of preseason.

Several first-team players were unavailable during the final few months of the Clarets’ promotion-winning campaign.

Aaron Ramsey was one player who returned before the season finished, coming off the bench in a 5-0 win over QPR for his first competitive game in 14 months.

It comes after the former Aston Villa player was forced to have surgery after sustaining a horrific knee injury during a defeat to Arsenal in February 2024.

Jordan Beyer, Bashir Humphreys (whose loan from Chelsea will be made permanent), and Manuel Benson were all sidelined in the final stages of the season.

Jonjo Shelvey, meanwhile, was also absent, with his previous cameo coming in the FA Cup at the start of March. The 33-year-old is set to move on, however, at the end of his short-term tenure.

Parker discussed the future of Burnley’s injured players, saying: “They’ll have individual programmes [over the summer], in fact the entire team will have individual programmes.

“Those men coming back from long-term injuries would definitely come in or start working early, just to be ready for the start of pre-season.

“So I’m hoping that Beyer, Bash, Ramsey, who’s been involved anyway, but I hope all of those boys are back fighting fit and we get them fresh for the start of season.”
